Have you ever told yourself, “I’m sick of tired of being sick and tired?”  As a wife, mother, daughter, sister or friend, I’m sure you have because Lord knows, I have told myself that so many times that it became the devil on my shoulder mantra.  After raising kids, trying to sustain a marriage and still work on myself, I had grown tired.  Tired of trying, tired of hoping and tired of struggling.  I kept moving but on the inside I was constantly in motion, and working on myself was always the last item on my “To Do” list.  I had become comfortable with hard times and bad situations, and I was pissed.  In my attempt to control and maintain, I inadvertently welcomed depression, anxiety and loneliness and as Iyanla Vanzant calls it, I was at a high level of “pissosity.”  By trying to “Save Them,” I neglected the moments that I missed to Save Myself

 

To change one’s life, it is required to change your thoughts and mindset.  Therapy is the time and place to face your past and present circumstances and reflect on the thoughts and feelings you have used to survive and where you ask yourself, “How is this working for me?”  Therapy is the intentional and purposeful process in which you open your eyes and accept and forgive others and yourself and create a better version of “YOU.”  My practice, Bend Don’t Break Counseling was named after the resiliency to weather all of life’s storms. My name is Edwina Leonard LPC-A.  I have a Bachelor’s in Human Services, Masters in School Counseling and a Post Graduate Certificate in Mental Health.  I am a certified School Counselor and have over 15 years of experience in the therapeutic space working with children, young adults, parents/families and adults both in the US and Abroad, but my passion is working with women who are “Sick and tired of being Sick and tired.” Therapy is hard work and sometimes you will be required to sit in a space that is uncomfortable, but I hear all the time that I have a homey and relatable vibe, I am the therapist that they didn’t know that they needed and that I provide a welcomed space that lets them let down their walls because they won’t be judged.  I also hear that I won’t let them give up, feel defeated, will keep it real and call them out when needed.  Hey, I get it, I have a past and being judged sucks. 

I work from an eclectic approach because there is no one fit for all my ladies, but I work from the here and now space with a visit to the past and a focus on the future with some challenge in between which covers Reality, Person Centered, Acceptance and Commitment, Cognitive Behavior Approaches and Gestalt  Theory to promote your self-awareness, personal responsibility and to focus on you as the whole person in the context of your life.
